Committee formed to probe HSTU clash
Dinajpur: A five-member probe committee has been formed to investigate Thursday’s clash that left two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists dead on the Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science and Technology University (HSTU) campus.
University registrar Nazibur Rahman said a five-member probe committee headed by Professor Anis Khan, dean of the Agriculture Faculty of the university, was formed to investigate the incident.
The committee was asked to submit its report within two working days.
The other committee members are Balram Roy, dean of the Post Graduate Department; proctor Dr ATM Shafiqul Islam, Dr Saifur Rahman and chairman of the Statistics Department Shahadat Hossain Khan.
Besides, the authorities of HSTU have decided to continue regular academic activities, including classes and examinations.
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the academic council of the university early on Friday.
The emergency meeting led by Vice-chancellor Ruhul Amin that began at 11:00pm on Thursday continued till 1:00am on Friday.
The meeting also decided to take actions against those responsible for the incident.
Earlier, two activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were killed and 10 others were injured in a clash between two rival groups of the university unit of the ruling Awami League’s student wing on Thursday night.
The deceased are Mahmudul Hasan Milton, in his twenties, a final year student of the Agriculture Faculty, and Md Zakaria, in his twenties, a student of the Business Studies Faculty.
Both are supporters of a BCL faction, led by the university unit president and secretary.
