One missing as lighterage vessel sinks in Bay

Chittagong: A man went missing when a lighterage vessel sank in the Bay of Bengal near the Sandwip channel in Sandwip upazila on Monday night, reports UNB.
Quoting victims, Bijon Kumar Barua, officer-in-charge of Sandwip Police Station, said the ash-laden lighterage vessel named ‘MV Barshan-3’ with 12 crew sank in the Sandwip channel as a crack developed on its keel following a strong current in the bay at about 9:00 pm.
However, 11 crew of the vessel managed to swim ashore with the help of the local people, said two of the victims named Yeakub and Hasan at about 12:30pm on Tuesday while a fellow was still missing.
The lighterage vessel was heading towards Chittagong with 1,000 tons of ash (raw material of cement) from Khulna.
