Gazipur:  Legal action would be taken in case of violation of traffic rules and driving vehicles in the wrong side of the roads, says Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.

‘None, he may be any minister, MP, and VIP, will be allowed to ply their vehicles on wrong side of the road,’ he said while inaugurating an underpass on Kaliakoir-Nabinagar road at Sarabo in front of Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib KPJ Specialized Hospital in Gazipur City Corporation here, reports BSS.

Referring to relentless activities of the government to ensure a hassle-free journey during the Eid festival, the minister said, ‘We are working round-the-clock to ease the journey for homebound people. Police along with Rover Scouts and community police are working in this regard.’

He added that the Prime Minster Sheikh Hasina is enquiring the situation and earlier asked the authorities concerned to prioritize this issue of home-bound people or holidaymakers.

The minister inaugurated the underpass of 34-meter length and 3.5-meter wide on Kaliakoir-Nabinagar road at the cost of Taka over 5.50 crore. The construction work of the underpass started on 26 January, this year.

Additional Chief Engineer Shahbuddin Khan, Engr Sabuj Uddin Khan of Dhaka Division, and high officials of the Road and Highways accompanied the minister.
