Dhaka University Fine Arts faculty students, enraged by molestation of a group of girls on the campus on Pahela Baishakh, on Sunday laid siege to the Shahbagh Police Station in protest at the ‘in-action’ of administration in capturing the suspects.
Earlier on Sunday at about 2:00pm more than a hundred protesters formed a human chain in front of the faculty and later laid siege to the police station.
A group of the students tried to enter the police station, but they were stopped by the police constables on-duty at the police station entrance. Later, DU assistant proctor Rabiul Islam went to the spot and managed the students to withdraw their siege.
Protestors demanded the molesters tried without any delay. They, however, harshly denounced the role of law enforcers for their role during the harassment of the girls who went to the campus to celebrate Bangla New Year.
