Brahmanbaria: Eight people were killed and ten others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a microbus on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway at Shosoi in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Friday.

Identities of the deceased could not be known yet. However, the deceased were passengers of the micro-bus and travelling to Sadar upazila of Brahmanbaria for attending a wedding programme.

Police said a Sylhet-bound Ena Paribahan bus from Dhaka collided head-on with a microbus, leaving seven passengers of the latter dead on the spot and ten others injured, on the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway in Islampur  at about 10:00am.

Later, another injured died after he was taken to the hospital.

The injured were taken to Habiganj Health Complex and Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital, said Hatihata highway police camp in-charge Humayun Kabir.

Humayun Kabir said vehicle movement on the highway was halted for sometimes following the accident.
