Lightning strike kills 6 in Sunamganj
Sunamganj: Six people were killed by lightning strikes at Dirai and Shalla upazilas in Sunamganj on Tuesday morning.
Besides, six others were injured during the lightning strikes.
Among the deceased Shamim Mia, resident of the village of Matiapur, Tahur Mia, resident of the same village, and Shemra Hassan, a resident of the village of Tukdirai village, are from Dirai upazila.
In Shalla upazila Khainul Mia, a resident of Srihain village, and Iman Mina, and Hridoy Mia were killed in lightning strikes.
Police said 11-year-old Shemran Hossain was killed by lightning strike while playing at a field near his resident. Shamim Mia and Tahur Mia were killed when they were riding on a boat during the torrential rain at Matiapur village at about 9:30am. Five other passengers of the boat were also injured by the lightning strike. Later, an injured died.
Two among the injured were admitted to Dirai Upazila Health Complex, while two critically injured were sent to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet.
On the other hand, three fishermen were killed by lightning strike while fishing in the River Bera Mohona at Shalla upazila at about 10:30am. The bodies were handed over to their families.
Another fisherman, Shishu Mia, injured after being struck by lightning. He was taken to Shalla Upazila Health Complex.
