Dhaka: The whole nation has again become united against militancy, terrorism, violence and crimes against nature, says Land Minister Shamsur Rahman Sherif.

He made the remarks while inaugurating the ‘7th National Nature Festival 2016’ arranged by Notre Dame Nature Study Club at the city’s Notre Dame College auditorium, reports UNB.

The minister said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, in her speech at the United Nations General Assembly, called upon the global community to be united against militancy, terrorism, violence and anti-nature and anti-humanity activities.

Describing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as a nature-loving person, Sherif said he had made a call to remove hunger from the country through a green revolution.

The present government is working relentlessly to build a beautiful developed country by protecting agriculture, forest, land, rivers, hills and mountains and biodiversity, he said.

The minister visited the Nature Olympiad, wildlife photography, seminars, painting competition for children and other stalls at the event.

Chaired by Principal of the Notre Dame College Father Hemanto Pius Rozario, the inaugural session was addressed, among others, by Bangladesh Shishu Academy chairperson Selina Hossain, Dhaka University professor Niaz Ahmed Khan, Environment and Forests Ministry deputy chief Tapan Dey and forest conservator Ashit Ranjan Paul, said a PID handout.
