Kushtia: A police constable was killed and two other police members injured as a truck hit an engine-run rickshaw van carrying them in Shantidanga area at Sadar upazila in Kushtia in the early hours of Friday.

The deceased is Ariful Islam, in his mid-twenties, a resident of village of Khojagari at Badalgachi upazila in Naogaon.

However, the injured are Nayek Amirul Islam, and Constable Tushar Imran, they were admitted to Kushtia General Hospital.

The Kushtia superintendent of police (SP) Prolay Chisim said the police members were returning to Islamic University campus by a rickshaw van after completing their duties from university gate to Madhupur Bazar road on Thursday night. As they neared Shantidanga, a truck hit their rickshaw van at about 4:30am and left three of the police members injured.

Later they were taken to Kushtia General Hospital, where doctors declared Arif dead.

The Islamic University police officer-in-charge Shafiqul Islam said the police members were members of Khulna’s Range Reserve Force (RRF)
