Sylhet: Students of MC College staged a demonstration blocking Sylhet-Tamabil Highway on Tuesday morning, demanding to arrest Badrul Alam, a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader who stabbed college student Khadija Akter Nargis on Monday.

The agitated students took position on the highway at about 10:00am and blocked it.

They demanded justice and trial of Khadija’s attacker.

Meanwhile, the victim was shifted to Square Hospital in Dhaka early on Tuesday. She has been kept on life support.

On Monday evening, Khadija Akter Nargis, 23, a student of Sylhet Government Mohila College and daughter of Masuk Miah, a resident of Hausa village in Sadar upazila, was stopped on her way to home from college by Badrul Alam, is assistant secretary of BCL unit at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).

At one stage, Badrul, a resident of Manirgati village in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj district, stabbed Khadija indiscriminately, leaving her critically injured, said ADC of Sylhet Metropolitan of Police (SMP) Jedan Al Musa.

Hearing screams of the victim, locals rescued Khadija and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to polic after giving him a good thrashing.

Khadija was rushed to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was referred to Dhaka at about 12:10am on Tuesday as her condition deteriorated.

Badrul was also admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital under police custody.

The victim’s family sources noted that in the past Badrul proposed her, but was rejected. Badrul used to live at the victim’s family residence as a tutor at that time.
