Tremor kills 3, injures about 200

Dhaka: A powerful tremor that jolted the country on Saturday afternoon leads to the death of at least three women in Bogra, Pabna and Tangail.
In Bogra, a woman was killed as a mud-wall collapsed on her during the earthquake at the village of Unahoto Singra at Dupchanchia. Deceased Morsheda Begum was the wife of Foyez Uddin.
In Pabna, panic-stricken Rokeya Khatun, wife of Sohrab Uddin, a resident of Shahid Siddique Road of the town, died of cardiac arrest while she was hurriedly coming out from a building during the earthquake.
Rokeya was a retired teacher of Gopalpur Primary School and a secretary of municipality Awami League.
Meanwhile, in Tangail, Morina Begum, a resident of Saidpur of Mirzapur upazila, got panicked and fainted when she saw her house jolting during the tremor.
She was taken to Kumudini Hospital where doctors declared her dead, said Mirzapur police officer-in-charge Najmul Haq Bhuiyan.
In Comilla, at least 58 female garment workers were injured in EPZ area in the city as they scrambled to come out of the four-storey building of Kadena Sports Wear Limited during the tremor, director of the factory M Abdul Majed said.
They were taken to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
In Savar, over 100 garment workers were injured in a stampede that took place in the multi-storey building of Al-Muslim Group at Karnapara as they were rushing towards the exit door during the quake.
The injured people were taken to Savar Upazila Health Complex and Enam Medical College Hospital.
Besides, over 60 other panic-stricken people were injured in Narayanganj, Chapainawabganj, Brahmanbaria and Rajshahi. They were admitted to different hospitals.
Besides, five buildings—three in Sagarpara, Malipara and Kadirganj of the Rajshahi city and two in Borobazar and Rupsha of Khulna city — caved in under the impact of the tremor.
