3 killed as minibus overturns in Sunamganj

Sunamganj: Three people, including two women, were killed and 30 others injured as a minibus overturned at Jatua on Sylhet-Sunamganj road in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj on Wednesday afternoon.
The deceased were Radharani Das, 48, daughter of Jogananda Das, a resident of Shalla upazila, Mousumi Rani Das, 25, daughter of Shyamal Kanto Das of Hashimpur village in Derai upazila, and Shamim Ahmed, 35, son of late Abdullah of Gopalganj.
Joykalash Highway Police Office-in-charge Shafiqul Alam said the driver of Derai-bound minibus from Sylhet was talking on phone while driving ignoring the repeated warnings of the passengers.
The bus turned turtle after hitting a roadside tree adjacent to Jatua Primary School at about 2:30pm, leaving two female passengers and helper Shamim of the bus dead on the spot and 30 others, including a five-month old boy, injured.
The injured were whisked off to hospital.
