Jhenaidah: Three minors drowned to death in a pond at the village of Mamunshia at Kotchandpur in Jhenadah on Monday morning.

The deceased are Ria, around 10 years old, and Nirob, around 8 years, both are children of Joynal Abedin, and Murad, in his 10, son of Noni Mia.

Local people said the children fell into the water as they were playing over a raft made with banana tree trunk in a nearby pond at about 10:00am.

The Kotchandpur police Officer-in-charge Ahmed Kabir said local people recovered the body of three children, tangled around each other’s necks, at about 11:00am.

It has been believed that Ria and Murad fell into the water as they tried to rescue Nirob from the pond.

The OC said bodies of the children were handed over to their families.
