3 receives bullet injures in BGB-villagers clash
Lalmonirhat: Three civilians sustained bullet injuries as a clash broke out between a group of villagers and members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at Shomreshpur village in Patgram upazila at Tuesday night.
The injured were Jahedul Islam, son of Najrul
Islam; Ratan, son of Afjal Hossain, both hailing from Shomreshpur village; and Shafiqul Islam, son of Yousuf Ali, a resident of Panbari village.
Locals said Jahedul, a trader in profession, was bringing a tobacco consignment to his warehouse in Lalitarhat after purchasing it from a nearby village.
When Jahedul reached at Shomsernagar, a patrol team of BGB seized his tobacco van.
On information, Upazila Nirbahi Offricer (UNO) Rafiqul Islam along with the union parishad member concerned rushed on the spot to resolve the matter.
At that time a BGB member attacked the UP member suddenly, triggering the clash when BGB opened fire, leaving three villagers injured.
The injured were whisked off to hospital.
BGB company commander Makbul Hossain said the BGB members opened fire to control the situation.
Captain of Lalmonirhat BGB battalion 15 Lieutenant Colonel Bazlur Rahman Hayati confirmed the incident, saying the BGB members opened fire for self-defence.
