Kali Puja tomorrow

Dhaka: Kali Puja, the second largest festival of the Hindu community, will be celebrated tomorrow.

It is also called Deepabali or Diwali, the festival of lights.

Usually, Kali Puja or Shyama Puja or Mahanisha Puja worshipping the Goddess of strength, wisdom and enlightenment, is being celebrated on the night of New Moon of the Bangla month of Kartik.

On the night of Kali Puja, members of the Hindu community light earthen lamps (Pradeep) at their houses and at the crematoriums in memory of their departed elderly persons, including parents.

Hindus in the old part of capital Dhaka including Shankharibazar and Tanti Bazar usually celebrate the festival around 5-7 days. Shankharibazar to Tantibazar lanes have been illuminated and decorated gorgeously to celebrate the festival.

In the capital city, the puja will be also celebrated at Dhakeshwari National Temple, Ramna Kali Temple, Jagannnath Hall of Dhaka University, Siddheshwari Kali Temple, Sri Sri Baradeshwari Kalimata Temple under Sabujbag police station, Radha Gobinda Jeo's Thakur Temple at Banagram, Postogola Crematorium, Ramkrishna Mission, Biharilal Jeo's Temple at Sutrapur, Gautam Mandir, Ramseeta Mandir, Shibmandir at Shankharibazar, Tanti Bazar, Bangla Bazar and other temples and pandals.

Marking the festival, idols of the Goddess Kali has already been installed at different temples and pandals across the city. In some temples, animals will be sacrificed as one of the customs of the Kali Puja festival.

The Puja will be at held at Baradeshwari Kalimata Mandir at Sabujbag at midnight while as many as 5,000 earthen lamps (Pradip) will be lighted at Ramna Kali Mandir and Anandamoyi Ashram in the evening seeking blessing of the world humnaity.

Besides, cultural function will be held at Ramna Kali Mandir, Ram Krishna Math and Jagannath Hall premises.
