Narayanganj: Three members of a family sustained burn injuries in a gas explosion at their residence at Bandar upazila in Narayanganj in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased are Raihan Uddin, in his thirties, his wife, Maya Begum, around 25 years, and their 2-year-old daughter Mariam alias Pakhi.

The family’s neighbour, Selim, quoting Maya Begum, said the gas stove exploded when Maya was trying to light the stove in their residence at the village of Shalperchar in the upazila at about 6:00am. Fire engulfed the kitchen and nearby bedroom, where Raihan and Pakhi were asleep, and left the trio burn-injured.

Selim said local people recovered the family members and took them to Dhaka Medical College Burn Unit.

The Burn Unit resident surgeon Partha Shankar Paul said three of them are in critical condition.
