Court to hear Khadiza's statement Jan 8

Sylhet: A Sylhet court has summoned college student Khadiza Akter Nargis, who was brutally hacked by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Badrul Alam, on January 8 to give her statement.
Md Saifuzzaman Hero, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, passed the order on Thursday.
Meanwhile the court has already recorded the testimony of Dr Rezaus Sattar, neurosurgeon at Square Hospitals Ltd where Khadija received treatment.
Some 33 out of a total of 36 witnesses have now provided statements since the court started hearing the case filed against Badrul on December 5.
Earlier on November 29, the court indicted Badrul in the case.
On November 15, Sylhet Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Umme Saraban Tahura accepted the charge-sheet against Badrul.
On October 5, Badrul Alam confessed to hacking Khadiza in a statement he made under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPc).
Police submitted charge-sheet against the lone accused Badrul on November 8.
Khadiza, 23, daughter of Mashuk Miah and a student of Sylhet Govt Women's College, was waylaid by Badrul on her way home from college on October 3, and stabbed indiscriminately.
Badrul's animus towards Khadiza apparently stemmed from his unrequited love for her.
Having been brought to the capital's Square Hospital for advanced treatment to avert some of the early dangers, Khadiza is now undergoing treatment at Savar Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) hospital.
