4 killed as pick-up van hits tree in Gazipur
Gazipur: At least four people were killed as a pick-up van carrying workers hit a roadside tree at Ulukhola of Kaliganj upazila in Gazipur in the early hours of Sunday.
Fourteen people were also injured during the accident. The injured were taken to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex and other adjacent hospitals.
The Kaliganj police Officer-in-charge Alam Chand said around 23 workers of several factories were travelling to Netrakona from Narayanganj’r Rupganj by the pick-up. The driver lost control over the steering and hit a roadside tree as the pick-up neared Ulokhola Bridge at about 7:30am.
Three of the deceased are Renu Mia, from village of Batsatra at Kalmakanda upazila in Netrakona, Farid Min, and Mohammad Farid.
The driver of the pick-up van was also among the deceased.
However, the bodies were sent to Kaliganj Upazila Health Complex.
The OC said the accident took place as the driver was drowsy and due to dense fog on the highway.
Earlier, on Saturday morning, six people were killed while seven others injured as a bus collided head-on with a utility vehicle, locally known as Leguna, on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Gazipur.
