Satkhira: Two people were killed as a truck plunged into a pond in the Jethua area of Tala upazila in Satkhira early on Wednesday.

The deceased are the truck driver, Rawshan Ali, aged around 35 years, resident of Moheshkhola at Aminpur in Pabna, and Abdul Aziz, a worker in his thirties, resident of Chittagong’s Patia.

The Tala police Officer-in-charge Hassan Hafizur Rahman said the truck carrying a river-digging machine was travelling to the bank of River Kopotakkho at Jethua. On its way, the driver lost his control over the steering at about 4:00am, and the truck fell into a pond and left two people dead on the spot.

Later, police and Satkhira fire service went to the spot and recovered the bodies. The bodies were taken to Tala police station.

However, three other passengers of the truck survived the accident.
