Bagerhat: Two people were killed and 12 others injured when a bus plunged into a roadside ditch on the Khulna-Bagerhat Highway at Ujir Battala in Rupsha upazila of Khulna on Thursday night.

The deceased are Rokunuzzaman, in his thirties, of Kaliganj upazila and Zahurul Islam, of Kalaroa upazila in Satkhira district.

Abdul Mannan Farazi, officer-in-charge of Bagerhat Katakhali Highway Police Station, said the accident took place at about 10:00am when a Kuakata-bound picnic bus from Satkhira went down a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering, leaving 14 passengers of the bus injured.

The injured were taken to Khulna Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Rokunuzamman and Zaharul dead.
