Barapukuria Coal Mine workers call off strike
Dinajpur: The workers of Barapukuria Coal Mine withdrew their indefinite sit‐in at the mine early on Wednesday, two days after they started demonstration demanding to make their job permanent.
The workers called off their sit‐in at about 2:30am upon assurance from the district administration and coal mine authorities, said Rabiul Islam, president of the labour union of Bara Pukuria Coal Mine.
The district administration said they will arrange meeting between the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister and the mine workers so that the workers can place their demands before him, Rabiul added.
On Tuesday afternoon, Deputy Commissioner of Dinajpur Mir Khairul Alam along with Barapukuria Coal Mine managing director SMN Aowrongozeb and other officials sat in a meeting with the agitating workers to solve the crisis.
The workers called off their protest early Wednesday after an 11‐hour long meeting.
On Monday, the workers started the sit‐in inside the coal mine demanding to make their job permanent.
