A woman has been reportedly raped by a trucker while she along with her husband was returning to Gazipur from Dhaka.

The incident took place on Saturday night, just a day after an indigenous woman was gang raped in a microbus in Dhaka North city.

The couple is now undergoing treatment at Shahid Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital in Gazipur. They are apparel workers by profession and live in a rented house at Tilapra in Gazipur crossing.

The victim claimed that she and her husband were waiting for transport to return to their Gazipur home after consulting a physician at capital’s Khilgaon.

The rapist trucker offered them lift, which they accepted, and later he gave them a bottle of Fanta which the victim claimed might have been drugged by the driver.

After drinking it they felt drowsy, when at one point the husband fell asleep on the back seat, and the trucker forcefully raped her, claimed the victim.

Later the couple was robbed of their belongings and dumped at the crossing by the said trucker.

Hospital officials, however, could not confirm whether it was a rape before medical check is done. But the hospital’s residential doctor Abdus Salam Sarkar informed symptoms of being drugged were apparent in them.

Jaydevpur police officer-in-charge Khandakar Rezaul Hasan said he was informed about the incident and would launch an investigation.

On 21 May an indigenous woman was gang-raped inside a microbus by a group of unidentified persons on capital’s Kuril-Uttara road where she was waiting for transport to return her Uttara residence.
