No killer of blogger Avijit arrested in 2 yrs

Dhaka: Although two years have elapsed since the murder, no killer of blogger Avijit Roy could be arrested yet despite the investigation agency’s claim that at least six killers have already been identified.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Hoque on Sunday said a charge-sheet in the blogger killing case will be submitted very soon.
“Investigation into the murder has almost been completed and the charge-sheet will be submitted very soon,” he said when his attention was drawn to the sensational blogger killing at the annual sports programme of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) at its Uttara headquarters in the afternoon.
On February 26, 2015, Avijit Roy, a Bangladeshi-born USA citizen and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was hacked to death by unidentified men near the Bangla Academy, while he was returning home from the Ekushey Book Fair premises with his wife Rafida Ahmed Bonya.
A case was filed with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with the killing. DMP’s Detective Branch has been carrying out an investigation into the murder.
On January 31 last, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia claimed that the killers of Avijit Roy had already been identified.
“We’ve already arrested eight of the suspected killers, and Mukul Rana alias Shariful, the main accused, was killed in a gunfight with law enforcers in Khilgaon area,” he had said after inspecting the security on the Bangla Academy premises and part of Suhrawardy Udyan, the venues of the Ekushey Book Fair-17.
Police are on a manhunt to arrest five other accused, he had said.
DMP has already announced a bounty of Tk 5 lakh for information leading the arrest of suspected militant Selim alias Iqbal alias Hati-2, who was believed to be directly involved in the killing.
However, the investigators are yet to get any information in this regard.
