Dhaka: Instant noodles do not contain high levels of lead or testing salt that can be harmful for human health, concludes Bangladesh Standard and Testing Institution (BSTI) after examining noodles of five brands, including Maggi.

‘We have tested noodles of five brands, namely Maggi, Doodles, Ifad, Mama and Mister Noodles. Presence of lead was not found in none of them,’ BSTI director general Iqramul Haque on Monday afternoon.

He said, ‘We did not find presence of MSG (Mono Sodium Glutamate) or testing salt in harmful level. We got the results one or two days ago. The producers used ingredients according to international standard.’

Responding to a question whether Nestle produces Maggi Noodles with same quantity of ingredients, the director general said, ‘Nestle India produces in India and in Bangladesh Nestle Bangladesh. It maintains standard. It does not import from India.’

Nestle Bangladesh corporate communication manager Farah Sharmin Awlad said her company gives high priority in maintain quality of their products.

‘We strictly control the quality and extensively examine products to uphold its high standard,’ added Farah Sharmin.

Indian standards authority Safety and Drug Administration on 20 May found presence of high level of lead in Maggi Noodles. This news alerted BSTI that immediately took steps to check the noodles in Bangladesh.
