Netrakona: A woman was killed and seven people were injured as a trawler carrying them sank in the Kangsa River in Barohatta upazila on Tuesday.

The deceased is Dilruba Akhter, wife of Selim Jahangir of Jahangirpur village in the upazila.

Witnesses said the Hajiganj-bound trawler carrying some people and huge goods from Thakurkona launchghat capsized in the river under Dashdhar Bridge at noon due to strong current in the river.

On information, firefighters rushed in and recovered the body of Dilruba and rescued seven injured people.

Meanwhile, the district administration gave Tk 10,000 to the family members of Dilruba for her burial.
