Make deals public to be signed with India: BNP

Manikganj: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday urged the government to discuss with political parties the deals it is going to sign with India during the Prime Minister’s upcoming tour.

“It’s essential for the government to discuss with political parties before signing any important deal with India. But, this government doesn’t want to go to people as it has got isolated from them,” he said.

Fakhrul came up with the remarks while talking to reporters after joining a milad mahfil at Ghior upazila’s Pachuria village, marking ex-BNP secretary general Khandaker Delwar Hossain’s 6th death anniversary.

He said the governments in democratic countries take opinions of opposition parties through talks before signing any important agreement. “Unfortunately, our government is doing everything unilaterally by force as it’s not democratic one.”

The BNP leader said they have heard that the government is going to ink such deals with India that go against the country’s interests and its independence and sovereignty.

He warned that the country’s people will not only reject any anti-state deal, but will also foil together any plot against the country.

Earlier, Fakhrul paid homage to Delwar by placing a wreath at his grave on the occasion.
