4 women killed as trawler capsizes in Bagerhat
Bagerhat: Four women were killed and 15 people went missing as a trawler, carrying over 100 passengers on board, capsized in the River Panguchi in Morelganj upazila of Bagerhat on Tuesday morning.
The deceased are Beauty, wife of Mohsin Ali of Kalibari village and her mother Seyar Banu, wife of Hashem of Gobaria village and Nadira Begum, wife of Moazzem of Fulata village of the upazila.
Morelganj Police Station officer-in-charge Mohammad Rashedul Alam said the trawler sank in the river around 11:00am while heading towards Purano thana terminal from Srombaria.
Later, Coast Guard members and police retrieved bodies from the river, while local divers salvaged the sunken trawler.
Around 30 passengers were injured in the incident, and they were admitted to Morelganj and Sadar upazila hospitals.
Meanwhile, the district administration formed a three-member inquiry committee to probe the incident.
