The deceased are Sattar Miah, 40, Zohra Begum, 70, and Kanchan, 68, of Rampura in the capital, reports news agency UNB.

Sub-inspector Shah Alam, in-charge of Bandar river outpost, said a group of 30-40 people was going to traditional fair ‘Soleman Shah alias Langter Mela’ at Beltali of Matlab upazila in Chandpur from Rampura by the engine-run trawler.

However, the vessel sank in the river at Char Kishoreganj around 4pm after being hit by strong waves, he said.

Three people died on the spot and 10 others went missing although the rest managed to swim ashore, the police officer said.

Earlier on April 2, 2015, 16 people were killed as a trawler sank in the Buriganga River near Aliganj Ferryghat of Fatullah here while a group of people was returning from the same ‘Langter Mela’.
