Bagerhat trawler capsize death toll climbs to 17
Bagerhat: The bodies of three more people, who had gone missing after a trawler capsized in River Panguchi in Morelganj upazila on Tuesday morning, were recovered from the river on Friday, raising the death toll to 17 from the accident.
The bodies of those recovered on Friday are of Nasima Begum, wife of Jahid Hossain of Sharankhola upazila, Laboni Begum, of Morelganj upazila and Nasrin Begum, wife of Khalil Talukdar of Indurkani upazila in Pirojpur.
Informed by local people, a Fire Service team recovered the three bodies from different points of the river in the morning.
Earlier, members of Coast Guard, Fire Service, Navy and police recovered nine bodies from the river on Wednesday, said Masud Sardar, a deputy director at Bangerhat Fire Service and Civil Defence.
However, three people still remain missing in the incident, said Rashedul Alam, officer‐in‐charge of Morelganj Police Station.
The trawler, carrying some 100 passengers, sank in the river on Tuesday morning while it was heading towards Purano thana terminal from Srombaria.
