6 killed as bus overturns in Jessore

Jessore: At least six people, including a couple, were killed and 39 others injured when a bus crashed into a tree at Barinagar in Sadar upazila of Jessore on Tuesday.

Four of the deceased were identified as Arabindu Kumar Roy, 51, son of Anil Kumar of Magura district, his wife Eti Rani Roy, 45, Ramprashad Biswas, 32, son of Tarapodo Biswas of Jhenidah district and Rizia Khatun, 45, wife of Lokman of Sadar upazila in Jessore district.

AKM Azmal Huda, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said the Khulna-bound ‘Rupsha Paribahan’ bus from Kushtia hit the roadside tree as its driver lost control over steering while giving side to another bus around 12:30pm , leaving five people dead on the spot and 40 others injured.

Of the injured, 35 people were taken to Jessore General Hospital where another victim died around 3:00pm.

On information, a firefighting unit went to the spot and conducted rescue operation.
