Gazipur: The five compartments of a goods‐laden train were derailed at Pubail Rail Crossing in Gazipur early on Wednesday.

Railway police sources said five compartments, including the engine of the Dhaka‐bound freight train, veered off the rail track around 5:15am, suspending the train communication of Dhaka with Sylhet and Chittagong for a while.

However, the communication on Dhaka‐Sylhet and Dhaka‐Chittagong routes was restored through an alternative rail track, the railway sources said.

Meanwhile, a salvage train has reached the spot and started rescue operation.
