Dhaka: At least five people, including two siblings, were killed in landslides triggered by heavy downpour in Khagrachhari and Moulvibazar districts on Sunday.

In Khagrachhari, two siblings were killed in a fresh landslide in Budungpara of Ramgar upazila in the district.

The identities of the victims, aged around 10 years and 8 years, could not be known yet.

Heavy rainfall that lasted for about an hour in Budungpara caused the landslide at 5:00 am, leaving the two children dead, said Ramgar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Al Mamun Mia quoting locals and witnesses.

In another incident, a five-year-old girl, Nipun Chakma, daughter of Debabroto Chakma of Jatindra Karbaripara in Laxmichhari upazila, was killed when a chunk of mud collapsed on her amid rain around 8 am.

In Moulvibazar, a woman and her daughter were killed in a landslide at Dimai village in Borolekha upazila early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Afia Begum, wife of Abdus Sattar and their daughter Fahmida Begum, 13.

Shahidur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Borolekha Police Station, said the incident took place around 3:30 am when a chuck of mud from the hill collapsed on the house of Afia when they were asleep.

Local people recovered the bodies of the two victims around 6:30 am.

At least 156 people, including army personnel and children, were killed in landslides triggered by heavy rains in Bandarban, Chittagong, Rangamati and Cox's Bazar districts on June 12 and June 13.
