Tangail: A man was killed and 10 trainee army members were injured as their bus collided with a truck at Mirzapur upazila in Tangail in the early hours of Tuesday.

Identities of the injured could not be known immediately. The injured were taken to Mirzapur Kumudini Hospital. It has been known that the trainee Army officers were returning home from Chittagong cantonment to celebrate upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Gorai Highway police Officer-in-charge (OC) Khalilur Rahman Patuari said a Shyamoli Paribahan bus from Chittagong was going to North Bengal via Dhaka in the early hours of Tuesday, when a truck hit the bus near Mirzapur’s Pakulla on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway at about 5:30am and left the supervisor dead on the spot.

Transport movement was halted on the highway following the accident, which triggered gridlock on the road.

Later, highway police took away the wrecked vehicles from the road and transport plying became normal at about 6:30am.
