Benapole port vehicle faces accident, drive dies

Benapole: Driver of a Benapole port’s vehicle was killed as it faced an accident at Sharsha upazila in Jessore on Thursday morning.

The deceased, Jahidul Islam, in his forties, was a resident of Sadar upazila in Satkhira. However, Aminul Islam and his bodyguard Saiful Islam were also injured in the accident, which took place in Shyamalgachhi upazila on the Benapole-Jessore road. They were taken to the hospital.

The Benapole port police officer-in-charge (OC) Apurba Hassan said Aminul Islam was travelling to Jessore by a jeep of the port at about 8:30am, when a Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala route bus from opposite direction hit the vehicle near Shyamalgachhi upazila and left the driver dead on the spot.

Local people recovered Aminul Islam, and Saiful Islam from the spot and sent them to hospital.

Later, police held Biswajit, the driver of Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala bus, in Benapole checkpost area.
