Sholakia likely to host largest Eid congregation

Kishoreganj: All necessary preparations have been completed to hold the country's 'largest' Eid congregation at Sholakia Eidgah in the district as Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in the country on Monday.
Maulana Farid Uddin Masud, chairman of Islahul Muslimin Parishad, is expected to lead the 190th Eid congregation that is scheduled to be held at 10am.
Visiting the Eidgah on Sunday, the UNB correspondent found workers cleaning the venue while all other arrangements, including water supply for ablution and installation of electric line, were completed.
Following the terrorist attack on the day of Eid-ul-Fitr on July 7 in 2016, a three-tier security arraignment will be in place around the Eidgah this year to ensure security of the devotees.
Anwar Hossain Khan, superintendent of Kishoreganj Police, said the devotees will have to enter the Eidgah after going through three steps.
Nine watchtowers and closed-circuit cameras were installed and additional members of Rapid Action Battalion, police and five platoons of BGB along other law enforcers in plainclothes will be deployed around the Eidgah as part of the security, he said. "We hope the devotees will be able to offer Eid prayers safely," he said.
Meanwhile, two special trains will operate on Bhairab-Kishoreganj and Kishoreganj-Mymensingh routes to facilitate the movement of Sholakia-bound Muslim devotees.
Azimuddin Biswas, president of Sholakia Eidgah Managing Committee and deputy commissioner of the district, said, "We've taken all preparations for the 190th Eid congregation giving importance to security. Police, Rab and BGB members will be deployed in the Eidgah."
At least four people, including two policemen, were killed and 10-15 others injured in a bomb explosion followed by a volley of gunfire near the country's largest Eid congregation at Sholakia Eidgah in Sadar upazila on July 7 last year.
