Gopalganj: A day labourer was killed and 20 others were injured as a pickup van fell into a roadside ditch on the Gopalganj-Tekerhat Road in Vennabari Bazar area of Sadar upazila in Gopalganj on Wednesday.

The deceased is Dilip Sarkar, in his fifties, of Satpara village in Gopalganj.

A pickup van carrying about 25 labourers fell into a roadside ditch as its driver lost control over the steering in the area at around 6:30am on Wednesday, leaving Dilip dead on the spot and 20 others injured, said Sub Inspector of Boultoli Investigation Centre, Fariduzzaman.

The injured were taken to Gopalganj General Hospital.

Police seized the pickup van while its driver managed to flee the scene, added the SI.
