Kushtia: Five people, including a boy, were killed by lightning strike at Mashatala field in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia on Sunday.

Four of the deceased were identified as Mosharraf Hossain, 60 of Poyari village, Abdus Sattar, in his forties, of Kurshabaria village, Shahin, in his forties, of Atigram village of Mirpur upazila and Abul Kashem, around 45 years. The identity of the boy, aged about 12, could not be known immediately.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, said a thunderbolt struck them while they were standing under the shed of a shop amid rain, leaving them dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent those to hospital morgue.
