Man drowns in Chittagong rainwater

Chittagong: The body of a former government official, who drowned in a drain filled with rainwater in Dampara of Chittagong on Sunday night, was recovered from a canal in Miyakhan area under Bakolia thana on Monday morning.
The deceased is Shilbrata Barua Swapan, in his seventies, a resident of Mirzapur village in Hathazari upazila, and a retired revenue officer of Rangamati.
Pranab Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Bakolia Police Station, said Shilbrata slipped into the drain on a waterlogged road while getting into his car for returning home after attending a marriage ceremony and went missing.
Later, locals found his body in Chandpai Khal, 5km off the spot the accident spot, around 11:30 am and informed police.
On information, police recovered the body.
