Homage paid to FF Shahidul Haque Mama

Dhaka: People from all walks of life paid rich tributes to the valiant Freedom Fighter (FF) Shahidul Haque Mama after his body was taken to Central Shaheed Minar in the morning.
A flight of Qatar Airways arrived at Shahjalal International Airport this morning four days after he breathed his last at a Doha hospital, Qatar at the age of 67.
The body of the commander of Liberation War time guerilla group Mama Bahini was kept on the premises of Shaheed Minar for an hour so that people could pay their tributes to him.
General Secretary of Awami League Obaidul Quader, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University (DU) Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique paid their tributes to the freedom fighter.
Apart from this, different socio-cultural organisations, including Sector Commanders' Forum and Sammilita Sangskritik Jote, paid homage to Mama.
Earlier, members of Bangladesh Police led by Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka District Administration Mousumi Mahbub accorded a guard of honour to the guerilla commander.
Then, the body was taken to DU Central Mosque where Mama's namaj-e-janaza was held at 12:00pm.
Later, his body was taken to his ancestral home at Rupnagar, Mirpur in the capital.
He was laid to eternal rest at Martyred Intellectual Graveyard in the city this afternoon, said family sources.
Mama suffered a cardiac arrest on a Qatar Airlines flight from Dhaka to Stockholm on April 28. He was admitted to Al Waker Hospital in Doha, Qatar where he breathed his last at about 12:00am on Friday.
Mama played an important role in freeing Mirpur of Dhaka city from the occupation of Biharis, the cohorts of the anti-liberation forces, on January 31, 1972.
Mama Bahini, the fearless guerrilla group, was constituted under his leadership during the War of Liberation to free Mirpur and Mohammadpur areas of Dhaka city from the occupation forces.
He was the second witness of the war crime case against Abdul Quader Molla known as butcher of Mirpur.
