7 of a family burnt in gas line explosion

Dhaka: Seven members of a family were burnt in a fire that broke out due to a gas pipeline explosion at a tin-shade house in Dhaka’s Gandaria in the early hours of Wednesday.
The injured are Aleya Begum, in her sixties, her daughter Shahida Begum, around 30 years, son-in-law Shariful Islam, in his thirties, granddaughter Sharifa, around 13 years old, 8-year-old grandson Shubho, another daughter, Shahnaz, and her Shahnaz’s husband Ali Akbar.
The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Some of the injured are in critical condition, said the physicians.
The victims’ neighbour said fire breakout as a gas pipeline running through the two-room tin-shed house exploded at about 4:00am. The residents were sleeping when the blast occurred and left all of them burnt.
DMCH Burn Unit resident physician Partha Shankar Paul said among the injured, Aleya is suffering from 33 per cent of her body burnt, Shariful 45 per cent of his body burnt, 2 per cent of Sharifa’s body was burnt, 8 per cent of Shuvo’s body, 35 per cent of Shahnaz’s body and 25 per cent of Akbar’s body is burnt in the accident.
