Ashulia RMG factory fire under control, 10 hurt

Savar: The fire at Medlar Apparels readymade garment factory in Ashulia area of Savar, on the outskirts of the Dhaka, was brought under control after around 3 hours in the early hours of Sunday.

However, around 10 people were injured during the incident.

Ashulia DEPZ Fire service Senior Station Officer Abdul Hamid said the flames brought under control at about 12:00am.

The workers of the factory said the fire originated at the store room on the first floor of the eight-storey building of Medlar Apperals Ltd in Norshinghopur area of Ashulia a 9:15pm and engulfed the whole floor. Some workers, who were working for the night shift, were confined into the building.

Being informed, Ashulia DEPZ fire service went to the spot, later units of Dhamrai and Ashulia fire services joined the rescue operation.

Abdul Hamid said, around 11 units of fire fighters worked to douse the fire.

Authorities of adjacent garment factories closed their night shifts immediately after the fire broke out at Medlar Apparels. Transport movement on the Nabinagar-Abdullahpur Highway was also halted due to the fire incident. However, transport plying began after the fire brought under control.
