20 hurt in Savar garment factory clash
At least 20 people were injured in a three-sided clash between workers of a garment factory, police and owner of the factory at Pukurpar area of Ashulia on Tuesday.
Industry police director Mostafizur Rahman said Mahbub Apparels authorities closed the factory as around 700 workers staged demonstration and observed work stoppage to demand increase of piece-rate on Monday.
Mostafizur Rahman also said that owners’ group beaten up two workers, Rana Hamid and Sajedul, when the joined work on Tuesday morning.
Later, the agitated workers also threw stones to the owners’ group and police and involved in a three-sided clash.
Police fired three bullets to bring the situation under control.
The workers also vandalised five vehicles.
The injured workers were sent to Enam Medical College Hospital.
Additional police members had been deployed in front of the factory for security measure.
