Sylhet: The video footage of a teenage boy being brutally tortured to death by a mob on a theft charge in the city has triggered an outcry.

Sheikh Samiul Alam Rajon, 13, son of Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Badeali village in sadar upazila, was tortured to death by the mob for allegedly stealing at Sundar Ali Market in Kumargaon area of the city on 8 July (Wednesday).

The 28-minute video clip showed two people beating Rajon mercilessly after tying him up with a pole at the workshop.

It assumed that a group of 5-6 people were involved in the torture.

The killers themselves took the video footage of the incident and uploaded it on the internet.

The video clip went viral on social networking site facebook and video-sharing site youtube which caused an outcry.

The video showed that the killers beat the teenager on his legs with a rule asking him ridiculously whether he was happy. As the boy prayed for mercy saying he was happy, the attackers said if he was happy at one strike, then the happiness will double if he was beaten more.

They also pierced the sensitive organs of the boy.

Worst, when the boy asked for water to drink, the attackers did not provide him with any water. Instead, they asked him to drink sweat which was running through their bodies.

At one stage, Rajon collapsed on the ground and died.

However, the killers took the body into a microbus in a bid to dump it secretly.

But, local people caught Muhit, 26, while taking the body to another place, and handed him over to police.

On information, victim’s family members identified him at about 11:00pm on Wednesday.

Jalalabad police filed a case against four people, including Muhit, his brother Quamrul Islam, 24, their associate, Ali Haider alias Ali, 34, and guard Moyna Mia alias Boro Moyna, 45, in this connection.

Victim’s father Azizur Rahman said Rajon used to hawk vegetables to run the family.

Rajon’s mother Lubna Akhter said he went out of the house for selling vegetables on the fateful day and remained missing till night.
