Farmer drowns after police chase
Bhola: A farmer died in the pond after being chased and hit by police on Bheduriya road in Hetnarhat area of sadar upazila, Bhola, on Monday morning.
The farmer, believed to be Abu Jamil, was drying paddy under the sun on the road in the morning, local people said.
Two police constables — Abdul Hannan and Ismail, who were on-duty on Bheduriya ferry terminal questioned Jamil for drying up paddy on road.
At one stage, they locked into altercation and Hannan chased Jamil and threw a stick at him.
After being hit by the stick, he fell into the pond.
Later local people recovered his body from the pond.
Following the incident, local people confined two police constables to a room.
The sadar police officer-in-charge Mobashwer Ali went to the spot for investigating the incident.
