Madaripur: Police foiled a human chain organised in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Madaripur district town on Sunday protesting the killing of children, including the two schoolgirls of the district, across the country.

Authorities of local AH International School and College convened the human chain in front of the DC office at about 11:00am, said witnesses and organisers.

People from all walks of life, including students, their guardians, lawyers, family members and relatives of the two schoolgirls, thronged the venue to take part in the programme.

Police, however, obstructed the human chain as soon as it began, saying no prior permission was taken for the programme.

The law enforcers snatched banners from the participants. They also tried to pick up founding principal of AH International School and College Gaus-r-Rahman.

However, they released him in the face of resistance by the students.

Meanwhile, police could not yet arrest the prime accused, Rana.

On Thursday, some unidentified miscreants killed the two students of Mustafapur High School at Terobhaddi village in Sadar upazila.

Officials at Sadar Hospital said four unidentified young men had brought the two girls of Mustafapur High School to the hospital in a critical condition on Thursday afternoon, saying that the duo took poison to commit suicide.

Locals and hospital authorities caught two youths from the hospital on suspicion as they had been there to enquire about the condition of the victims. Later, they were handed over to police.

The girls, hailing from Mustafapur village, succumbed to their injuries at about 5:00pm.

Later, father of one of the victims filed a case against seven people on Friday noon in this connection.

On Saturday, a court placed three accused on police custody for seven days each in the case filed over the killing of the two schoolgirls after rape at Terobhaddi village in Sadar upazila on Thursday.
