Noakhali: Body of an old man was recovered from a canal at Rasulpur village under Bajra union of Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali on Saturday morning.

The deceased is Md Abdur Rashid, in his seventies.

Sonaimuri police officer-in-charge (OC) Kazi Haniful Islam Bhuiyan quoting Abdur Rashid’s son Md Raihan said, Abdur Rashid went out of his house at about 5.00am to respond to nature's call.

At about 6.00am, the inmates of the house woke up and did not found him on his bed. They started looking for him and found his body floating in the canal beside their house.

Receiving information police rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the canal. The body was sent to Noakhali Abdul Malek Ukil Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

It is being assumed that he was drowned in the canal.
