Lightning strikes kill 2

Panchagarh: An elderly person and a youth were killed and 12 others injured by lighting strikes at different areas in Boda upazila of Panchagarh on Wednesday.

The deceased are Moslem Uddin, in his seventies, resident of Goyalpara village, and Soleman Ali, in his twenties, of Velshai area in the upazila.

At Goyalpara village in the upazila, Moslem and several others were hit by a lightning strike while they were working at a paddy field in the afternoon, leaving Moslem dead on the spot and Abul Hossain, Rustom, Rofiqul Islam, Ataur Rahman, Zulhas, and Asma Khatun, injured.

At Velshai area, Soleman Ali along with his wife Parveen Aktar and others were hit by a lightning strike when they were working in a field at noon, leaving Soleman dead on the spot while his wife Parveen Aktar, and Shahinur, injured.

At Balabhir-Goalapara area in the upazila, two people including a housewife were injured by lightning strikes at noon.

The injured were sent to Boda Upazila Hospital first.

Later, critically injured Shahinur, Abul Hossain, Rustom and Rofiqul were shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

Upazila nirbahi officer of Boda Upazila Md Abu Awyal allotted Tk 10,000 for the families of each of the deceased, and Tk 5000 for each of injured.
