Patukhali: A nine-year old boy was allegedly tortured inhumanly over stealing money in pouro area of Bauphal upazila in Patuakhali on Friday morning.

The victim is Mohammad Rakib, son of Abdul Khalek of Najirpur union of the upazila and a class IV student of Bakla Taterkathi Government Primary School.

Police and local people said Rakib stole Tk 1100 from his father’s pocket on Tuesday afternoon and went into hiding.

After a frantic search, his maternal cousin Mohammad Jewel found him in a rickshaw stand in the Pouro area at about 8:30am.

Later, Jewel with the help of Mohammad Khoka Miah, caretaker of a local market, tied Rakib up with a chain and tortured him.

On information, police rescued Rakib and arrested Jewel and Khoka Miah.

Bauphal police officer-in-charge A J M Masuduzzaman confirmed the incident.
