Dr Kamal wants gas, power price hike decision revoked
Dhaka: Terming the sudden hike in the prices of gas and power ‘unacceptable’, Gano Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain on Friday demanded the government rescind the decision.
He came up with the demand at a meeting with leaders of Gano Forum’s central and Dhaka city units at the party office, said a press release.
Dr Kamal said although the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has taken the decision not to raise the gas and electricity tariffs following a public hearing a few months ago, the government has suddenly hiked the prices.
He also expressed his concern over the slide in the law and order situation and the rise in the incidents of child killing, murder, crossfire and drug abuse in the country.
Mentioning that Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had been against exploitation, corruption and capital flight, the eminent jurist said huge amount of money siphoned off from Bangladesh have been stashed in Swiss banks.
‘As this government is illegal, it can’t take actions against the misdeeds,’ he added.
Dr Kamal also said a national unity should be formed through making people aware to stand against the ongoing corruption, terrorism and ailing politics of Bangladesh.
Gano Forum general secretary Mustafa Mohsin Montu, among others, spoke at the meeting.
