Shariatpur: Two people were killed in separate incidents of wall and tree collapse in Naria and Sadar upazilas of Shariatpur on Saturday.

The deceased are Lal Chan Badsha of Tegani Jhagrachar village in Roumari upazila of Kurigram district, and Nure Alam Sheikh of Soyana village in Sadar upazila of Madaripur district.

Naria Police officer-in-charge Ikram Ali Miah said when Lal Chan along with his co-workers was digging soil by a dredger in a pond at Rajnagar Hasikandi village in Naria upazila in the morning, a tree suddenly fell on him, leaving him dead on the spot.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.

In another incident, construction worker Nure Alam Sheikh suffered injuries as the main gate of Ganganagar Model School and College in Sadar upazila collapsed on him after a cement-laden truck hit the gate while entering the institution at noon, OC of Palang Model Police Station Monirul Islam said.

Critically injured Nure Alam was rushed Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police arrested truck driver Mohammad Hossain Mizi and his helper Ruhul Amin.
