Flood situation deteriorates in Jamalpur

Jamalpur: Fresh areas in the district were inundated with continuous rising of water level in the river Jamuna.
With the continuous rising of water level, four more fresh unions have been inundated raising the number of affected unions to 53.
About 2, 57, 611 people in 53 unions out of 68 in the district were affected by the flood, District Relief and Rehabilitation office source said.
Water Development Board said Jamuna recorded a rise 6 cm and was flowing 68 cm over the red mark at Bahadurabad ghat point at 12:00 noon during the last 24 hours.
District primary education officer M Abdul Alim said due to flood 111 primary schools have been shut down. On the other hand, flood water entered in the compound of 155 more primary schools.
Department of Agriculture Extension Office said with the rising of the water level standing crops on 16,280 hectares of land of the district were submerged.
